> The Sorrows series of modules began in 1994 with the release of
> Sorrow's End. Composed by Dude and Dream Scythe of Rat, the song in and
> of itself was a beginning in their tracking career, but not all that
> remarkable. Following up on the original concept, the two sat down a year
> later and wrote Sorrow's Return. Like the first song, it was a four
> channel protracker module, made with Modedit 2.0. Although working within
> the bounds of four channels, as well as being simple and repetitive,
> Sorrow's Return was an instant hit in the Rat crowd. It carried the epic
> feel which Rat's music has been henceforth known for, and set a standard.
> Later in 1995, Catspaw joined the Rat team and instantly fell in love
> with Sorrow's Return. Catspaw at the time was using Screamtracker 3.21,
> and felt that Sorrow's Return had a lot of unrealized potential... so he
> set out to remix it.
> What began as a remix turned into a complete rewrite. Where the
> original MOD only had four channels and half a dozen samples, Sorrow's
> Redemption reached ten channels and was turned into a semi-orchestratic
> piece with a rock drumtrack. Even so, Catspaw felt that it was important
> for the song to return to the main theme chorus of Sorrow's Return, and
> to use the same lead instrument as the original. Sorrow's Redemption was
> considered, for a long time, to be one of Catspaw's own best works.
> Continuing on this note, a Rat team project called Cream of the Crap
> came up. The point of this team pack was to gather together all of our
> worst works, and write new things purposefully silly in order to make fun
> of ourselves. So as his entry for COTC, Catspaw remixed Redemption as a
> four-channel chip song, calling this insult "Sorrow's Reduction". :>
> At this point, Catspaw had begun using Impulse Tracker, and decided
> that it was time for a new rewrite of an old classic. The result of this
> is what you now have in front of you... Sorrow's Avatar.
> What's next? Only time will tell.. though keep a lookout for the return
> of Rat tag-team musicians Dude and Dream Scythe, who will be working on
> the final dance of the series: Sorrow's Triumph.
> Be Mighty.
